Level: History
Fly LEVEL SL, brand name LEVEL, is a Spanish virtual airline based in El Prat de Llobregat near Barcelona and based at Barcelona Airport. It is a subsidiary of the International Airlines Group, which also includes British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling. Level is not currently a traditional airline, but distributes flights operated by Iberia.At the end of 2016, Willie Walsh, CEO of IAG, announced that he would offer a low-cost long-haul route from 2017. This was mainly against the background of increasing competition from low-cost airlines such as Norwegian Air or Eurowings. On 18 March 2017, IAG announced that the new low-cost airline would be called Level. Level began operations on 1 June 2017, initially with two new Airbus A330-200s from Barcelona Airport. These were given their own livery and cabin. Vueling, which operates a hub at Barcelona Airport, also serves as a feeder for the new airline.
Furthermore, IAG plans to expand Level, operating from more European airports and expanding to five aircraft in summer 2018.
Two more Airbus A330s will be delivered in 2019 and are said to be intended for use in Vienna — but will operate in Paris before that.
On 19 June 2020, Level Europe filed for bankruptcy and on 9 July 2020 it was announced that OpenSkies would be liquidated.
