«Greater Bay Airlines» operates flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok.

Greater Bay Airlines: History

Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) is a Hong Kong airline established in 2010 as Donghai Airlines and renamed Greater Bay Airlines in July 2020. Its first charter flight was from Hong Kong to Bangkok.The company was founded on May 24, 2010 as an airline under the umbrella of East Pacific (Holdings) Ltd. At the time, the airline was called Donghai Airlines. On January 17, 2019, the airline’s name was changed to Donghai Airlines (Hong Kong) Limited, and on December 5, 2019, the airline was renamed Hong Kong Bauhinia Airlines. On July 8, 2020, the airline was renamed Greater Bay Airlines Company Limited.

In February 2021, major existing Hong Kong airlines Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines submitted position statements («representations») rather than objections in response to GBA’s application to the Hong Kong Bureau of Transportation and Housing. The company plans to rely on freight until travel restrictions due to COVID-19 are lifted.

On Aug. 2, 2021, Greater Bay Airlines received its first Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Its first charter flight was on November 29, 2021 on the same day from Hong Kong to Bangkok roundtrip. The second aircraft was chartered in March 2022, up from the originally planned seven aircraft.

It received its operator certificate in October 2021. In February 2022, it received its Hong Kong air transport license.

On July 23, 2022, Greater Bay Airlines began scheduled flights to Bangkok twice a week.
