Flair Airlines: History
Founded in 2005, it was originally based in Kelowna as Flair Air and was a charter airline. It therefore began operations in 2006 with two Boeing 727-200s, one in cargo configuration and another in passenger configuration. The first major charter contract obtained by Flair Air was to transport cargo and passengers between Cuba and Canada. Subsequently, they landed another major contract with the Canadian gasoline company Shell to transport material north of Fort McMurray for the Albian Sands project.
In 2008, they replaced their two Boeing 727-200s with three Boeing 737-400s.
During the contract with Shell from 2007 to 2010, Flair Air transported more than 10,000 employees per month throughout Canada.
In 2010, the contract ends.
In 2013, they took delivery of a fourth 737 and subsequently in 2016, a fifth.
In June 2017 they announced that they would rename themselves Flair Airlines and that they would operate their first commercial flight the same year with two additional 737s.
The company decided in 2020 to serve new destinations from August, such as Prince George, Fort McMurray, Regina, Saskatoon and Victoria. In total, it serves 11 destinations.
In March 2021, it announces the launch of flights from Montreal to Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax and Abbotsford, as well as other new routes across Canada, from July 1, 2021. These flights will be operated with the new Boeing 737 Max of the company. The company aims to have 50 aircraft in its fleet within 5 years.
In July 2021, it once again announced an expansion of its network from 8 Canadian cities (Halifax, Montreal, Kitchener−Waterloo, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Abbotsford) to six new destinations in the United States (Fort Lauderdale, Holywood-Burbank, Las Vegas, Orlando-Sanford, Palm Springs and Phoenix-Mesa).
